Dreamers newsletter 23rd February 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Feb 24, 2023

Hi and welcome to another Dreamers Newsletter

We all enjoyed our visitors, Silvington, from the Folk on the Moor Club, last Sunday. John and Tricia gave us a lovely evening of their own songs, not least from their latest CD, “Shadows on the Sand” with plenty of songs about places and life in Cornwall. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more of them in future. A singers night this coming Sunday followed by the visit of an old favourite, Mike Silver, on March 5th. Mike has his own web-site at mike silver if you want a preview.

Before all that we have the Cornish Zoom Folk Club this coming Saturday with performers from all round the UK and the world. If it’s anything like the last one, it should be a great evening so join us if you can – audience as welcome as performers. We open the doors around 7.15 for a start prompt at 7.30 – please let me know if you need the zoom link.

Following on from the recent court case about wild camping on Dartmoor, Folk on Foot is now featuring a new episode “Freedom to Roam”. This is a music and multi-media project dreamed up by the flautist Eliza Marshall as a response to many of the pressing issues facing us. On this walk climbing the glorious Malvern Hills, she is joined  by Catrin Finch (harp), Andrew Morgan (percussion), Donal Rogers (piano, guitar) and Jackie Shave (violin) to tell a story of migration, liberation and care for our planet. Looking ahead to summer days, Sidmouth Festival from 4th to 11th August. All sorts of tickets are on sale now from Tickets 2023 – The Sidmouth Folk Festival The list of performers is pretty much endless – The Unthanks, Show of Hands, The Young’uns, Lindisfarne, Cara Dillon, Breabach, Lady Maisery, Maddy Prior, Peat and Diesel and Seth Lakeman to name but a few – see the web-site for more details.

Finally, David Harley writes to say that the book he’s been threatening so long, based on his Tears of Morning album, is now out under the title So Sound You Sleep. It’s basically about the historical background to no less than 34 songs (available from Bandcamp) with a (sometimes tenuous) Shropshire connection. That’s all for now, busy day here. Hope to see you at Saturday’s zoom session or at the Club on Sunday
