Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter
It’s great to be able to say that following the excellent evening two Sundays ago, we had a repeat last Sunday, again with some really good performances from all. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to two such good evenings in successive weeks
This coming Sunday, 14th July, we have guests with the visit of Anna Anise and her trio. Anna is a Cornish singer-songwriter whose songs capture the spirit of Cornwall. Whether they are tender ballads or uplifting anthems, her songs blend traditional folk elements with a modern twist. She’s performed widely and is a member of the Cornish language vocal group Hireth so we can look forward to a wide range of material. After this Sunday we’ll have another singers night and that is followed by more guests with Shout with Hilary Coleman and the Red River Singers on Sunday 28th June.
This weekend also sees the Falmouth Sea shanty Festival taking over the town from Friday to Sunday with huge numbers of visitors. The programme is on line at Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival and there’s also an app. For those who remember the problems simply getting to Falmouth and parking in earlier years, there’s now a shuttle bus service from the Penryn Campus which apparently has large capacity.
Thanks to Robin (Evans) for spotting and passing on the news that Reg Meuross is appearing at Ells Barn, Wheal Busy tomorrow (Friday 12th June (from 7.00) supported by Tiffany Davies. Wheal Busy is at Chacewater, TR4 8NZ . It would be good if anyone can support them both.
A reminder that the Cornish Voice Tour has it’s 30th Anniversary weekend at the Membly Hall Hotel in Falmouth from 2nd to 4th October this year. Always a special weekend with lots of good performers coming from far and wide. Booking details for the hotel at 01326 312869 or gmmemblyhall@outlook.co.uk and more information generally from Pip Franklin at 07778 739341 oe di.franklin@gmail.com
Finally, as you know, we will be moving up country early in August so, unless someone volunteers to take it on, this Newsletter will come to an end shortly, probably at the end of June as we need to concentrate on removal stuff in July. It started during covid as a way of keeping in touch and, over hundreds of editions, has developed into a way of sharing folk and some personal news. Thanks to all who have contributed items over the years.
Hope to see you on Sunday for our guests
All the best
Nigel
