Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter after a week’s gap as – seemingly like most of Cornwall – we had visitors. I hope last week’s Singers night went as well as the weeks before it.
This Sunday, 10th August, we have our first guests for a little while and a real treat in store with Mick Ryan and Paul Downes. Born in the same year, both are well known as singers and interpreters of traditional songs as well as original material. Mick has, of course, been involved in a number of acclaimed folk operas. Paul is one of the finest guitarists on the folk scene but still regards himself as a singer of songs first and foremost. Together, they make a night not to be missed and, no doubt, there will be an opportunity to buy some of their great recordings, together and separately, as well as to hear them in person.
We’re coming up to the Cornwall Folk Festival at Wadebridge running from Thursday 21st August until Monday 25th. Lots of attractions from big names to local performers, folk, blue grass, Appalachian etc etc. Tickets and more detail of the programme at https://cornwallfolkfestival.com/wp/event/tickets/
Thanks to Robin for drawing a couple of gigs coming up which I’m sure will be of interest to many of us. Firstly on 6th September 7.00pm, there’s Detta Kenzie, an artist from the Southwest, whose songwriting is deeply rooted in the landscapes and stories of the region. Now launching her debut EP, Detta is joined by award-winning guitarist Chris Cleverley in a new duo that brings intricate musicianship and atmospheric soundscapes to the stage. Together, they create something rich, immersive, and hard to define. This is at the Piggery at Hole in Liskeard – more info from Robin or Detta’s website www.dettakenzie.com and tickets from www.ticketsource.co.uk/southeastcornwallarts
And, secondly and a bit further off, Reg Meuross and Boo Hewardine are playing Constantine on 7th November (or the Acorn in Penzance on the 8th). Here’s a link – https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1549yJ4KHe/
Online it’s a quiet time of year with nothing on the main sites until September when it looks as though they come back with a real bang. The next Cornish Zoom is not till 23rd August.
That’s all for now, hope to see you on Sunday for what should be a great night with Mick and Paul
All the best
Nigel
