Dreamers newsletter 10th July 2025

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jul 10, 2025

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of the Dreamers Newsletter, apologies for no Newsletter last week, just too many things on.

We’ve had some cracking evenings at the Club in recent weeks with some excellent visitors and our regulars on good form. Let’s hope we can keep this up through the summer on a succession of Singers Nights until our next guests, the excellent Mick Ryan and Paul Downes on 10th August. More of them nearer the time.

One regular who we’ve been missing in recent weeks is, of course, Roger Bryant. As I told those at the Club on Sunday (when we all signed a card of best wishes), Roger and his daughter, Mandy have asked me to pass this on to everyone:-

“After meeting at home and on the phone with palliative care and Oncology the situation is becoming clearer. Although it’s not sure at the moment if the fatigue he has been struggling with the last couple of weeks, which has made it difficult to keep in contact with people, is due to the cancer treatment or disease progression, possibly both. The longer term progress has been estimated as months but again difficult at this stage to be more exact.

Much still has to be decided and sorted out but the general plan is for him to stay at Jackie’s in St Austell and look to sell the flat. We will get him to a few Dreamers sessions over the coming months so he won’t disappear completely! His new address is 5 Clover Court, St Austell PL25 5GE”.

We’re all looking forward to the promised visits!

Festival news comes through almost every day now with Sidmouth next at the beginning of August. A huge, week-long event, of course with seated concerts, ceilidhs, workshops, dance and all sorts of informal sessions. Some world-class music by the sea in a great atmosphere even if you can’t make it for more than a day or two. All the details at Tickets – The Sidmouth Folk Festival

And then, from 21st to 25th August, it’s the Cornwall Folk Festival at Wadebridge – details at Cornwall Folk Festival: Thu 22- Mon 26 Aug in Wadebridge, North Cornwall

Online, Live to Your Living Room is having a brief pause before restarting on 25th July with a number of live events brought to you from Warwick Folk Festival. More of them later. As always, there’s a range of old and new material on Folk on Foot including a fascinating walk in the historic City of London with rising stars of the folk world Goblin Band. From an ancient church ringing to the Castleton Carol, via an underground car park where the remains of the Roman Wall form the backdrop to “The Twa Corbies” and onto the banks of the River Thames for some mudlarking and a beautiful “Grey Funnel Line”, these talented young performers share their passion for passing on traditional music to a new generation of listeners. Plenty of other good stuff on this site, any of which can be heard whenever it suits you – Home | Folk on Foot

Finally, a reminder to have a look at the excellent Folklife magazine at . the next update of Folklife West is in early September. All sorts of different sub-sites from traditional songs to events all round the country and much more.

All the best, hope to see you at the Club on Sunday.
