Dreamers newsletter 29th May 2025

Posted By dreamersfolk on May 30, 2025

Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter. After everything last weekend going on last weekend with festivals, half term holidays and so on, there’s not so much to record this week (and next week will be difficult as we are away).

We had a great guest in Mark Dowding last Sunday. He’s been our guest before so knew well how much we like to join in and also to hear the provenance of his songs. Given other distractions, there were less people to hear him that he deserved. It didn’t seem to faze him at all – as Maggie wrote to me afterwards “A small but perfectly formed audience! As Mark always says he doesn’t care if it’s 2 or 200 – he’s happy to sing anyway!!”. And they said they might well drop in another time (as visitors rather than guest performers) which would be great. It was interesting to hear that they are involved in/run two other zoom sessions which sound very successful, like our own with participants from all round the world. It was also good to see and hear Lamorna on Sunday with Geevor Lads, an unexpected bonus.

It’s singers night again this week so an opportunity for all to show off their talents (?!), try new material or revisit old material. While there are still a few people away, we never quite know who might turn up during holiday times. Another singers night on 8th June followed by our next guest, Johnny Campbell on 15th June. The next Cornish Zoom Folk Club is on Saturday 28th June, more of all that later.

The online site Live to Your Living Room seems to be going on holiday shortly but as trailed last week, we have Heather Ferrier tonight 29th May at 8.00 (Heather Ferrier’s Mint Sessions With Heather, Ceitidh Mac And Me Lost Me | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room) and then Martin Carthy on 12th June for the launch of his latest album, Transform Me Then Into a Fish (Martin Carthy | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room). Once the site returns in the autumn there look to be a whole series of great sessions including an evening with Martin Simpson, Andy Cutting, and Nancy Kerr and then a session with Leon Rosselson and Robb Johnson.

We haven’t seen Tiffany Davis at the Club for a little while now but you may be interested to learn that she’s now got her own facebook page – Tiffy’s Folk Melodies.

And at the Acorn in Penzance, on 12th June, there’s Scottish singer-songwriter Adam Beattie and multi-platinum singer-songwriter Fiona Bevan embarking on a double headline tour of the UK in celebration of their new music releases. Adam’s upcoming album Home Fires Burning is a homespun epic which explores family, legacy and belonging. Adam writes melodies inspired by the traditional fiddle tunes of his childhood, played on finger-picked acoustic guitar. Fiona will release the first single from her upcoming EP First Woman On The Moon, a set of brand new songs exploring hope, love and female desire against a political backdrop. Beattie and Bevan have been singing in close harmony and accompanying each other on guitar, piano and double bass.

That’s all for this week, hope to see you on Sunday

Take care

Nigel
