Dreamers newsletter 17th April 2025

Posted By dreamersfolk on Apr 18, 2025

Hi and apologies for the lack of newsletter last week – visitors here took up all the time.

We’ve had a couple of good evenings over the last two weeks with Hunter Muskett two weeks ago -some great stuff from Terry Hiscock, Doug Morter and Rog Trevitt followed by another high quality singers night last Sunday, some regulars away but enough of us there to make for an enjoyable and varied evening.

Before this Sunday’s Easter singers night, we have the Dreamers visit to Bodmin Folk Club tomorrow, Friday 18th April. Bodmin Folk Club is at St Petroc’s Parish Centre, Priory Rd, Bodmin PL31 2DP with Parking nearby atPriory Car Park, PL31 2DE. It’s an upstairs room but there is a stair lift. There’s no bar but you are welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks (though they do an excellent cup of tea or coffee and chocolate biscuits (including GF). Bodmin FC starts at 8.00 and we hope to see a good turnout of Dreamers.

And a last reminder that there’s a guitar concert at Praa Sands Community Centre at 7.00 this Saturday, April 19, in aid of the Alzheimers Society. An excellent cause and, from the sound of it, some excellent musicians. More info on the centre’s website at www.praasandscommunitycentre.co.uk

The following week we have the April session of the Cornish Zoom Folk Club on Saturday 26th April. As always all welcome, just contact me if you need the link.

The Falmouth Shanty Festival this year runs from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th June with a record number of performers, some well known to us, others from far afield, at venues all over the town. The main Festival site is at Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival As in other recent years, it’s paired with “Falmouth Classics” which features three days of enjoyable racing and a spectacular Parade of Classic Boats and the Small Classic Boat Parade. Since it began, in 1987, Falmouth Classics has steadily grown to be one of the largest Classic sailing events in the UK. Their web-site is at Falmouth Classics – 13th-15th June 2025

More news from the organisers of Cornwall Folk Festival (in Wadebridge from 21st to 25th August this year. The Betjeman session on Sunday 24th August will feature Jackie Oates with Mike Cosgrave with support from Cornish singer songwriter Nicole Tesseyman. The Festival website is at https://cornwallfolkfestival.com/

Next Friday, 25th April, at 7.30, Live to Your Living Room features a hybrid gig from Sheffield with Andy Irvine with Quilty – Ireland meets Sweden for a melting pot of traditional music from both cultures. Together these two artists offer a unique musical journey taking in the cultures of their two native countries. Andy Irvine will be familiar to many as one of the great Irish singers whilst the Swedish band Quilty is a highly renowned interpreter of traditional Irish music and considered the foremost band of the Irish folk music scene in Scandinavia. Since 2020 Quilty has been touring with the programme Out on the Ocean – sea shanties, emigration songs, love ballads and songs about epic adventures at sea in a salty and tar scented concert programme combining Irish and Scottish songs with the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, as well as the traditional music from their own country. Tickets from Andy Irvine With Quilty | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room

That’s all for now, hope to see you at one or more of these events.
