Hi
It was lovely to see so many friends, new and old, at the Dreamers 25th Birthday Party last Sunday. Some lovely performances, many reminding us in one way or another of past days. Many thanks to all who came along or sent messages and, particularly to those who organised the evening. Special thanks, firstly, to Pip Franklin for lots of preparation and hard work as MC on the evening and, secondly, to all those who contributed cakes – if only this could become a regular event!
A Singers evening this coming Sunday, 23rd March, (and the following week) but proceedings will be cut a bit short this week, as Pip announced, to enable us to have an open discussion about the future of the Club, what changes might be needed and what changes might be wanted. This is your opportunity to have say (and, if you can’t make it on Sunday, I’m happy to pass on any messages). Next guests are Hunter Muskett on 6th April.
Meanwhile it’s time for the March edition of the Cornish Zoom Folk Club this coming Saturday 22nd March, starting at 7.30 prompt and ending by 10.00. These zoom sessions have been excellent through the winter months with a wide range of performers. It seems more ask to be added to the mailing list each month so hopefully this will be another great evening. Just ask me if you need the link
Also online, Live to your Living Room has Rosie Hood tomorrow, 21st March at 7.45 as trailed last week (The Rosie Hood Band | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room) and, on Wednesday 26th March at 8.00) there’s Daisy Black who is a medievalist, storyteller, theatre director and dance teacher. Daisy presents Yde and Olive, a thirteenth-century tale of disguise, high adventure, public baths, gender fluidity, straight-talking angels, and the power of queer love. Weaving together medieval narrative with modern folk song, this performance will take you from birthing chambers to military barracks, through moonlit country lanes and woods stained with slaughter, to quiet chapels and court chambers crackling with gossip. Just like Dreamers most weeks! (Daisy Black | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room)
A reminder that that there’s a great evening ahead for a good cause on Friday April 4th at 7.30 in St Agnes Church when Rum and Shrub will be giving a concert in aid of Cancer Research. They will be supported by Out of the Wood (Toby Kessell and Jen Dyer). All proceeds will go to CRUK. Tickets at £10 each are available at https://www.atlanticcoastcluster.org.uk/tickets/
And, last but not least for this week, whilst we are obviously looking forward to seeing Joe Holtaway at the Club before long, there’s an opportunity to see and hear him on line singing his latest offering on Broad Quay in Bristol – “This Skin”: Joe Holtaway Sings of History and Healing – SLASH MUSIC Canada
That’s all for this week, looking forward to seeing you on Sunday
Nigel
