Dreamers newsletter 20th December 2024

Posted By dreamersfolk on Dec 21, 2024

Welcome to the last Dreamers Newsletter of 2024 and a very Happy Christmas and New Year to all.

Following last Sunday’s excellent meal and the selection of sketches, great singing and plenty of humour (many thanks to Jonathan and Jill for all the effort of organising it all), I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the last Dreamers evening of the year on Sunday with the opportunity to join in well-loved seasonal songs.

No Club on Sunday 29th December so we start it all again on Sunday 5th January with a singers night followed by our first guests of 2025 with not one but two guests – both Baldricks Plan and Out of the Wood on January 12th. More about them in due course.

In the meantime, there’s an opportunity to enjoy the music and fun online with the Cornish Zoom Folk Club on Saturday 28th December. As always you can get the link from me on request and the evening starts at 7.30 and runs until 10.00. A special request from our MCs for this festive edition is to wear some form of fancy dress – whether it be a simple hat or the full monty is up to you.

Lovely to hear from Mary and Ken up in Derbyshire. Mart tells me that recent guests at Belper FC were Stonesthrow, comprising Steve and Julie Wigley (who we often see on the Cornish Zoom) and Tony Fowkes. One of the songs they sang was Cornish Lads. They didn’t credit it as they didn’t know who wrote it, so Mary and Ken put them right in the interval, and they gave Roger a mention in the second half. They also heard it a few months ago on stage in Buxton. Fame at last!00

Sidmouth Festival send seasons greetings to all – new guests are being added to the line-up all the time so it’s worth following at Tickets – The Sidmouth Folk Festival if you are thinking of going there in August. Latest names are Fairport Convention.

Two things online:-

A reminder of Eliza Carthy’s Christmas Party with Jon Boden, Emily Portman, Merry Waterson and others at 7.30 tonight, 19th December. More at FolkScape Live

Two opportunities to see Tim Edey in hybrid gigs from Rosslyn Court – tonight and Saturday 21st December, both at 7.30. Now a name in his own right on the world stage having toured with most of the major names in Celtic contemporary roots music, Tim’s live solo shows are a stunning mix of world music inspired instrumental virtuosity and passion with a strong Celtic theme. Plenty more to look forward to both live and online but that’s all for 2025.

All the best
