I hope last week’s visit of Bodmin Folk Club went well – sadly we had to miss it with visitors here. This coming Sunday Dreamers welcomes Cornwall based Our Atlantic Roots who are making an increasing name for themselves with a range of appearances including the Cornwall Folk Festival. Their latest EP ‘Memories Live On’ has been highly praised by many folk musicians such as Sam Sweeney and Ben Nicholls. It celebrates the wild Cornish coast where the couple currently reside. More about them at OUR ATLANTIC ROOTS
Also this weekend we have the opportunity to get together, no doubt with many others, to celebrate the life of Gaye Bryant. This will be at the Membly Hall Hotel, Cliff Rd, Falmouth from 2.00 till 7.00 on Saturday (2nd November). Music, dance, buffet, bar and, for sure, many great memories and stories.
The Cornish Zoom Folk Club last Saturday night was, once again, a great success with numerous excellent performers despite a number of absentees from the usual list. The next session is on Saturday 23rd November when we hope to see Bruce and Jill Watson (who came to Dreamers last October) adding to our international presence now that the clocks here and in Australia have moved in the right direction for them.
Online, there are a couple of events tonight (31st October):-
Gilmore & Roberts are at Rosslyn Court at 7.30 in a hybrid gig (first hour livestreamed, second half exclusively for the in-person audience). The pair have been nominated three times at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, have toured Canada and mainland Europe, played some of the UK’s biggest acoustic festivals, toured with folk rock legends Fairport Convention and won countless accolades for their genre-spanning work. Meanwhile, at 8.00, Live to Your Living Room features Culverake, a new traditional singing trio promising gusto and harmonies a plenty. The trio is made up of Seb Stone, Matt Quinn and Lizzy Hardingham, and together they breathe new life into timeless melodies. Culverake | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room
And next week, on Friday 8th November at 7.30, Live to Your Living Room has John Tams This is a hybrid gig coming from St Andrew’s Church in Sheffield, and tickets to watch it in person (or receive a recording of the gig) are available at John Tams | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room. John’s work has spanned 6 decades in every performance medium with over 60 albums. His performance backstory includes Muckram Wakes, The Albion Band, Home Service and his duo with Barry Coope. He’s also known for his work with The National Theatre (War Horse), as well as having credits on television (Sharpe) and radio (The Radio Ballads) and playing on stages throughout the UK and across the world.
Enough for now, hope to see you on Sunday at the Club
All the best
Nigel
