Time for this week’s Dreamers Newsletter and after, another good singers night last week, there’s plenty to look forward to in the near future.
At the Club, there’s the visit of Bodmin Folk Club this Sunday, an opportunity to hear some old friends, have a good chat and to share a buffet with them. Then, the following Sunday, 3rd November, we have Our Atlantic Roots as guests. Our Atlantic Roots are Mac and Laura Johnston, originally from North Carolina and Yorkshire respectively, now living in Cornwall but travelling the UK for audiences at festivals, in theatres, in barns and in bars. Tight harmonies and a blend of their individual cultures.
After that, our next guests are Rum and Shrub Shantymen on 1st December with our Christmas meal on 15th December and an evening of seasonal songs on 22nd December.
Before that, on Saturday 2nd November, everyone from Dreamers is invited to the celebration of Gaye Bryant’s life at the Membly Hall Hotel in Falmouth from 2.00 until 7.00. Music (being organised by Mike Smith), a buffet at about 5.00 and, for sure, lots of happy memories.
This Saturday, 26th October, sees the latest session of the very popular Cornish Zoom Folk Club, starting at 7.30 in your own living room. One of the beauties of these sessions is that we never know who is going to turn up from the long invitation list. Recent sessions have not only been well supported but also notably high quality. As always, let me know of you need the link.
Tomorrow, Friday 25th October, the online site Live to Your Living Room features Sam Carter, live from St George’s Bristol with support from Lou Shepherd. Over his fifteen-year career, Midlands-born guitarist and songwriter Sam Carter has earned a reputation for vivid, heartfelt songwriting and captivating live performances. He is a highly regarded instrumentalist, renowned by many as “the finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation” (Jon Boden). And, two events looking a little further ahead
· On Thursday 7th November, The Rheingans Sisters are live at the Cornish Bank, 34 Church Street, Falmouth at 8.00. Winners of numerous awards and with several albums to their name, they (somehow!) blend the sounds of century-old recordings of Norwegian fiddlers, songs in ancient Occitan language and true stories from the Northern Irish Civil Rights movement with future imaginings and dreams. Electric guitar and synths underpinning raw textures of fiddles, feet and medieval bass drones of the tambourin à cordes, The Rheingans Sisters are one of the most visionary acts on the British folk scene today. An exquisite brand of traditional and contemporary acoustic music.
