Hello and welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter, short, I’m afraid due to lack of time.
I hope last Sunday’s Club Night went well. Sadly we were unable to make it due to other pressures over the weekend, not least non-folkie visitors who felt that one night at the Voice Tour was enough for them! The Voice Tour Weekend in Falmouth seemed to go well. Sadly some absentees but still lots of great performers – it was particularly good to see Roger Bryant and to hear him in good voice. He told me he’s planning to make it to the Club this weekend which would be great obviously.
On the other side of the coin, it was worrying to hear that Pip Franklin had been rushed to hospital with a strangulated hernia on the Friday night. It seems treatment has gone well and I’m sure everyone will join in sending good wishes to Pip and to Di – no need to rush back until you are properly recovered, Pip.
This Sunday night sees our next guests in the shape of Neil Davey and Steve Hunt, honest-to-goodness folk music from all over the place on a variety of stringed instruments. Well known as prime exponents of Cornish traditional music with Dalla and Skillywidden, the duo draw on a broad repertoire encompassing Cornish and other Celtic styles, English folk song and early Americana, with flair, finesse and fun. Steve and Neil are familiar to many of us and we can look forward to another good evening.
Wadebridge Folk Club starts again next Thursday 17th October at the Barn NT Café at Pentireglaze PL27 8QY (7 till 10 pm). They also have a special celebration of Apple Day on 27th October at the same Venue – it’s an afternoon of apple related fun, games, live music (Richard Trethewey and Neal Jolly) and Morris Dancing (Boscastle Border Morris side). From about 12 noon and until about 3.45
On line, Live to Your Living Room features Sally Barker tomorrow night (11th October at 8.00). Not only is Sally a founding member of the female folk band The Poozies, but she’s also had a long and varied solo career. Her musical life remains firmly rooted in acoustic and folk music as a singer and songwriter not to mention performing with other bands such as Fotheringay, The Sandy Denny Project, Iota, and being guest vocalist with Fairport Convention. She’s also done support slots with Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Richard Thompson and others. More details and tickets at Sally Barker | Online Gig | Live To Your Living Room
That’s all I can manage for this week, all the best to all and hope to see you on Sunday night.
