Dreamers newsletter 4th July 2024

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jul 6, 2024

Thanks to all who came to the Club last Sunday, another good session with regulars on good form and reasonable numbers in spite of some being away at other attractions.  3 more Singers nights now before the visit of Louise and Chris Rogan on 28th July, more about them nearer the date, And then a regular succession of guests through till the end of the year, all on the new flyers and the Club website.
3 online folk events to tell you about in the next week.

Tonight, 4th July at 7.30, there’s a new name to me in Stanley Sibande, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Zambia. In 2019, he relocated to South Africa with nothing but a guitar on his back in search of a better life, and he hasn’t looked back since. Now based in Cape Town, he’s heading over to the UK to tour, This is a hybrid gig from Rosslyn Court in Margate, first hour livestreamed, second half for the in-person audience only. More about this at Stanley Sibande – Rosslyn Court

A more familiar name this Saturday 6th July at 8.00 in the Wilson Family The Wilson Family have been singing and performing a cappella folk songs together since 1974. This North East folk group is seen by many as the benchmark for powerhouse unaccompanied singing. This year, they’re marking 50 years of singing together with the release of their latest album, Sibling Revivalry. This gig is being livestreamed from The Glasshouse in Gateshead, and will be available to watch live or on demand after the show. More at FolkScape Live

And next Tuesday 9th July, again from Rosslyn Court at 7.30, there’s another hybrid gig with Georgia Shackleton who is  currently touring solo material across the UK and Europe. Georgia works with fiddle, voice, tenor guitar and drones to create crisp arrangements of old songs and new compositions. She’ll be accompanied by Aaren Bennett on guitar. Finally a reminder about Folk Life UK. There’s a new site at  www.folklife.uk with some changes, well worth a look, not least if you are travelling and want to see what’s on where you’re going.

That’s all for now, bit rushed this week. Hope to see you on Sunday.

All the best

Nigel
