Dreamers newsletter 18th April 2024

Posted By dreamersfolk on Apr 19, 2024

Hi, back to the Dreamers Newsletter after a short gap due to family issues. Some catching up to do.

It was good to be back at the Club on Sunday night, a few people away but still plenty of good stuff. It was particularly nice to see Joe again after his guest spot at the RNLI benefit event at Mousehole a couple of days earlier. Two more singers nights coming, this Sunday 21st April and the next, 28th April before the first of two guest nights in May with the visit of Harry Bird on 5th May and then the Shackleton Trio on 19th May. More about both guests nearer the time.

The next Cornish Zoom Folk Club is on Saturday 27th May, usual details next week. There are still plenty of zoom clubs going giving the opportunity to hear performers from elsewhere who one wouldn’t normally get to see (yes, some of them looking for bookings!), just ask me if you would like more information.

As the sun comes out and the days get longer, it’s coming up to Festival season:-

Foxes Fair – coming to Dreamers Folk – Sunday 23rd June 2024

·        This coming weekend, 19th to 21st April, sees the Port Isaac Shanty Festival with an excellent line-up of Shanty Crews –details at  Welcome To Port Isaac Shanty Festival (which seems to emphasise all the food available as well as the music!)

·        Nearer home for Dreamers is the Falmouth Shanty Festival from 14th to 16th June. More information at  Programme – Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival (falmouthseashanty.co.uk) – keep an eye on this one though no programme is available yet.

·        Further ahead, from 2nd to 9th August is the Sidmouth International Festival with the usual huge line-up of performers – it would probably be easier to list those who haven’t been booked! Lots of detail about performers, the programme and ticket arrangements at 2024 Line Up So Far… – The Sidmouth Folk Festival

·        And then, at the end of August, there’s the Cornwall Folk Festival at Wadebridge from 22nd to 26th August. There have been some tweaks to the line-up but again deails and tickets can be found at  Home – Cornwall Folk Festival

On line, the excellent Fay Hield, on her first solo tour, following a stellar career performing with many of the folk scene’s most eminent musicians, is touring an intimate series of venues so audiences can get up and close to the music. Engaging stories about the songs and why she sings them, including big ballads, silly songs and nursery rhymes. She’s at Rosslyn Court tonight, 18th April at 7.30, live streamed and can be seen at  Fay Hield – Rosslyn Court and then, if that’s too short notice, she’s also be on Live to Your Living Room on Thursday 2nd May at 7.30 – Fay Hield | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room

Also on Live to Your Living Room, tomorrow, 19th April at 7.45, are past Dreamers guests Christine Alden and Alex Patterson (with the Lost Trades). Multi-instrumentalists and songwriters from Norwich with music rich with intertwining harmony, sensitive accomplished musicianship and a creative song-writing style that is both delicate and moving. This is another hybrid gig from Downend Folk and Roots in Bristol – Christina Alden & Alex Patterson | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room
Enough for now, hope to see you on Sunday

All the best

Nigel
