Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter
Steve Winchester gave us a very good night at the club last Sunday, mostly his own songs about Cornwall which we all enjoyed. A few regulars missing but made up for by a good few less frequent visitors – including Harry Glasson who is our next guest performer visitor on 7th April with his songs and stories – don’t forget to let Jonathan and Jill know if you are coming, particularly if you plan to bring others who would not usually be with us.
Before then we have 3 singers nights to look forward to and there’s also the Cornish Zoom Folk Club on Saturday 23rd March.
Looking much further ahead, the Cornish Folk Festival is Wadebridge runs from Thursday 22nd August to Monday 26th this year. Headline acts listed so far are The Trials of Cato, Daphne’s Flight, Lady Maisery, Reg Meuross, Richard Trethewey and many others. Various online events:-
Tonight, 14th March, James Delarre and Saul Rose have a hybrid gig at Rosslyn Court with the first half shown online. With their combination of fiddle and box, they have been together for some time breathing fresh life and energy into their music. Tickets from James and Saul – Rosslyn Court
As mentioned last week, Live to Your Living Room has a gig with Downend Folk and Roots near Bristol, tomorrow 15th March at 7.15 with Hannah James and Toby Kuhn and support from Seb Stone. Tickets for this one at Hannah James & Toby Kuhn | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room
And the next night, Saturday 16th March at 8.00, the same site has Reg Meuross (with support from Katie Grace Harris) in a live gig from the ACE Space in Newbury. Reg is, of course, a well known figure described (by Mike Harding) as one of this country’s finest and a true modern troubadour. Tickets from Reg Meuross | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room
And, then, after Sunday night off (well, there’s always Dreamers!), on Monday 18th March, there’s Alex Cummings, singer, accordionist and pianist, with the launch of his new album Homecoming said to be an exciting album full of toe-tapping tunes, beautiful ballads and rollicking choruses. Finally, it was good to see some Dreamers at Barbara Nicholson’s funeral in Sussex this afternoon and to hear well-deserved, warm words about her. We watched on zoom as did another friend, Rosie Longhurst. I’m sure everyone joins in sending best wishes to her and to Mike who is currently in hospital (seemingly recovering).
All the best
Nigel
