Last Sunday night at Dreamers with Flash Jack was really a night to remember. A packed house with lots of visitors (special thanks to Pip Franklin and all who helped with the chairs and tables), excellent performances from a good line-up of our regulars and above all a top class performance from Flash Jack themselves, rousing choruses and a great range of material. It looked as though they enjoyed it as much as we all did.
A very sad note, of course, was news of the death of Barbara Nicholson earlier in the week from complications following surgery on the hip which had troubled her for so long. Barbara was a regular visit to Cornwall and to Dreamers with her husband Mike and she’ll be sorely missed. I’d like to think that last Sunday evening was the sort of evening which she would have loved.
We move on to some more singers nights now before the visits of Steve Winchester on 10th March and then Harry Glasson on 7th April. Meanwhile the Cornish Zoom Folk Club continues with the next session on Saturday 24th February, more details next week.
Our good friend, Nick Dow (who has been a guest at Dreamers and regularly comes to the zoom sessions) has told us about two evenings of folk songs from Dorset and Hampshire in Bridport and Lymington on 4th and 5th April if anyone is in the area. There’s a very strong line-up of singers including Steve Turner, Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne, Annie Winter and others as well as Niuck himself. Both nights run from 7.30 to 10 and cost £7. Let me know if you would like the link for tickets and more detail.
I often get info about other events and sessions and I’m happy to pass these on. It was good to hear that Nerida Cuddy, our guest from New South Wales last year has a guest session on one of the regular zoom sessions run on the third Wednesday of each month (7.45 to 11.00) by Pete Grassby from Rowington Folk Club in Warwickshire. Nerida is on next Wednesday, 21st February. Wendy Grossman from the US (but living in London) is also featured. Some other past guests at Dreamers were Ninebarrow who have a live online gig from the Happy Hut at the bottom of their garden this Saturday 17th February at 7.00 p.m. Tickets £14 single / £28 for a household from Online Concerts | The Ninebarrow Shop. Also available on catch-up for 7 days.
