Dreamers newsletter 23rd November 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Nov 24, 2023

Last Sunday’s Dreamers session was notable for the opportunity to wish Pat Farmer a very Happy 90th Birthday (actually today 23rd November). We all signed greetings cards and Jonathan organised us into the customary rendition of Happy Birthday. Thanks to Robin for managing to take a video of this on his phone which has been sent to Pat’s daughter, Sheila, together with some still photos. A great greeting for an old and faithful friend of the Club who would have enjoyed the usual range of songs and humour.

Another singers night this week Sunday 26th November, all welcome to sing ,dance, recite or play to an attentive, generous and eager to join in audience. Come & join in the fun!

Humour should be a feature again on Sunday 3rd December with the visit of Rob Barratt, a familiar figure to many of us with his self-penned poems combining clever word play, satire, verse and song with audience participation on a wide range of topics. Rob has just been on tour in Australia – for more info see his web-site at Rob Barratt

Then we have a Singers night on 10th December followed by our Christmas gathering on December 17th. Jill and Jonathan have arranged a Christmas meal before the Club starts at a cost of £12.50 for 2 courses (generously subsidised by the Club)P – bookings needed. To be followed, no doubt, by the usual mixture of seasonal carols and songs together with a good measure of hilarity. The Club is then closed on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Eve so reopens on January 7th.

Meanwhile we have the November session of the Cornish Zoom Folk Club this coming Saturday, 25th November. These sessions seem to go from strength to strength with performers and audience from far and wide and a generally excellent standard. As always, let me know if you would like the link. We haven’t yet decided about a date for the December zoom – either 23rd or 30th.

There’s yet another new episode from Folk on Foot with singer, songwriter and guitarist, Katie Spencer, taking the audience to Spurn Point, a narrow spit of land in East Yorkshire which stretches three miles out to sea with a lighthouse at the end. This can be found at Folk On Foot with more information about Katie Spencer at her own web-site https://www.katiespencer.net/

Live to Your Living Room has plenty coming up in the pre-Christmas weeks. Next Thursday, 30th November, there’s BBC Radio 2 award winner, Lucy Farrell who has performed with a whole host of bands as well as performing her own material and an impressive range of instruments. Her first solo album was released earlier this year. https://livetoyourlivingroom.com/events/lucy-farrell-2/

And two days later, on Saturday 2nd December, the same site features Alistair Anderson from Northumbria, a master not only of Northumbrian pipes but also of the concertina. This one is at Alistair Anderson | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room

No more now, hope to see lots of you at Saturday’s zoom session or at the Club on Sunday.

All the best

Nigel
