Another great guest evening at the Club on Sunday with Kana, a new female group based in Perranporth, singing shanties and songs of the sea, often with a new twist. Lots of fun and great to see a full house at the Victoria. Best of luck to Kana – I’m sure we’ll hear more of them in the future. Thanks also to all the regulars who supported them – even by our own standards this was excellent all through.
Now we have a couple of singers nights until the visit of Rob Barrett (of whom more later) on 3rd December and then we are in the run-up to Christmas. The next Cornish zoom session is on Saturday 25th November.
The evening of Friday 24th and then Saturday 25th November also sees the St Ives Shout. This started in 2016 and has grown and grown so that this year there are over 20 groups (inclduding Kimbers Men from Yorkshire) performing in pubs and bars around the town, continuing the tradition of informality. All the venues are free (apart from drinks!). All details of the programme on their website at Home | St Ives Shanty Shout
It’s a busy week online with several interesting events starting with Maddie Morris tonight, 16th November, at 7.30 from Rosslyn Court – a hybrid gig with the first hour livestreamed (donations encouraged) and the second half for the in person audience only. Maddie takes traditional song in new directions, shining a light on contemporary issues and passionately political. The livestream is at Maddie Morris – Rosslyn Court
Then on Friday, 17th November, a familiar figures in John Kirkpatrick with Songs from the Trenches, songs fro the first and second world wars, popular hits from the time as well as some poignant moments. This is on Live to Your Living Room starting at 8.00. John Kirkpatrick: Tunes from the Trenches | Online Gig (livetoyourlivingroom.com)
And, finally, for those with the stamina, we have past Dreamers guests, Ninebarrow, in their own live concert with their top 15 songs as voted on by fans. This is at Online Concerts | The Ninebarrow Shop (with a 7 day catch-up afterwards)
Last but not least, after all that, we have Dreamers Live on Sunday! Look forward to seeing you there.
All the best
Nigel
