Hi and welcome back to the Dreamers Newsletter. Sorry to have missed out last week – our power went off at 5.15 a.m. on Thursday and stayed off for the best part of 24 hours.
We’ve had a couple of nice, friendly Dreamers Singers Nights in the last two weeks but this Sunday we have our penultimate guests of 2023. Kana is a seven-piece female harmony group form Perranporth singing a selection of contemporary and traditional songs of the sea (often from the woman’s perspective) as well as their own original material. Their web-site is at Home – Kana (kanamusic.co.uk) if you want a preview (also on youtube, soundcloud and insta) – looks good. As we heard last Sunday, they are still quite new so there will also be plenty of time for regulars. This is, of course, Remembrance Sunday.
This Friday, 10th November, Live to your Living Room features Heidi Talbot and Boo Hewerdine in concert at Live at Sam’s in Sheffield. This is a hybrid gig with a live audience as well as online – tickets from Events | Live Music Online Gig | Live to your Living Room
Also coming up in the same site, we can look forward to John Kirkpatrick with Tunes from the Trenches featuring songs from both World Wars. This is on Friday 17th November at 8.00 and the following Saturday, 25th November, Live to Your Living Room has The Wilson Family with material for their new album.
This Saturday, 11thNovember, there’s a West Country Carols Workshop led by Dave Townsend, Mandy Townsend and Ian Giles at St Petroc’s Parish Centre in Bodmin from 1.30 to 4.00. Carols from old West Country bands from times past. Singers and instruments (except guitars and percussion) welcome. £20, pay on the door.
A reminder that, also this Saturday, Cornwall Festival has a fundraising ceilidh at Wadebridge Town Hall with Cataclews, starting at 7.30, adult tickets £10 from Autumn Ceilidh Fun(draiser) with Cataclews – Cornwall Folk Festival The Festival itself runs from Thursday 22nd August to Monday 26th August in 2024.
Good to hear that the re-opened Wadebridge Folk Club in its new venue (The Barn, NT Café, Pentireglaze) has got to the point where they can invite their first guests, Harbottle and Jonas, on 18th June. Let me know if you want more detail of this and their earlier sessions.
And, finally, as we heard last Sunday, Ruth (Beretta) is a member of the Sou’Westers Hand Bell Ringing Group who will be performing at St Petroc’s Church in Bodmin on Saturday 9th December (3.00 p.m.). Tickets from various ticket offices and crbo.co.uk/handbells More info in leaflets at the Club.
No more now, all the best and hope to see you on Sunday
Nigel
