Hi and welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter, a day early as we’re going away.
Thanks to all who came along last week to welcome Reg Meuross who gave us a great evening of familiar songs and some new ones (one completed on the morning of our session with him). It was good to see so many visitors from far afield who had come to see Reg – I hope they enjoyed the whole evening.
A couple of Singers’ nights now before the visit of John Conolly on 24th September. John is of course the author of “Fiddlers Green” and has been a presence on the folk scene since the folk revival of the early ’60s. He was among the founders/ of the Grimsby Folk Song club, which opened its doors in 1964. For more information, see John Conolly – Biography Page
The next Cornish Zoom Folk Club is on Saturday 23rd September – as always, let me know if you would like the link (audience as welcome as performers)
The “Live to Your Living Room” site is now back in full swing. Tomorrow night (Thursday 7th September) they have Maclaine Colston and Saul Rose at 8.00 p.m. and next week, on Wednesday 13th September, they have the Feminist Folk Club with Nancy Kerr, Angeline Morrison and Frankie Armstrong. This is a hybrid gig, hosted in partnership with the Thank Folk For Feminism podcast and the English Folk Dance and Song Society. The gig will be held at Cecil Sharp House in London, and tickets to watch it in person are available here. Further details of these events (and more at later dates) at Coming up on Live to your Living Room | Online Livestream Gig
It’s certainly a long way to go (up near Bristol) but, for admirers of The Young’Uns, there’s a rare opportunity to see a performance of “The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff” coming up at St Mary’s Church, Portbury on Thursday 5th October at 7.30 p.m.
That’s all for now. There’ll be no Newsletter next week as we’ll be away. Hope the next two weeks at the Club go well and see you on 24th September.
All the best
Nigel
