Dreamers newsletter 27th July 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jul 29, 2023

Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter. What a great weekend of folk music we had last weekend.
On Saturday we had the Cornish Zoom Folk Club – we had been a little concerned that numbers might be a bit down in the middle of summer with all the other attractions but, in the event, we had loads of excellent performers (from Europe, Canada and the US as well as the UK) so John and Marion had a real struggle to fit them all in without over-running. And a really high standard all round. Thanks to all who came along.
And then, on Sunday, a really lively night again with a first appearance from a “new” band called “It seemed like a Good Idea at the Time” and several visitors who we hadn’t seen for some time, all most welcome, of course. Not to mention lots of regulars on good form. On to another Singers Night this coming Sunday (30th July) and the next Sunday.
After that, on 13th August, we have the visit of Nerida Cuddy from Australia. Linking live and online music, its interesting to read on Facebook and on her web-site, how, after many fairly isolated years, due to her life in a small country town in New South Wales bringing up three children, Nerida greatly enjoyed the chance to find a much larger audience via zoom & Youtube since 2020 (particularly in the UK). Covid and lockdown weren’t good but some good came out of it, I guess, in terms of broadening musical horizons.
Sidmouth Festival is almost upon us, starting next Friday (4th August) and running for the whole week with (apparently) over 700 events. The programme is available at Homepage – The Sidmouth Folk Festival Whilst some events are sold out, there are still tickets for many available.
The 27th Cornish Voice Tour is at the Membly Hall Hotel in Falmouth from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th October. New faces always welcome – more details of the programme from Pip Franklin (Pip Franklin – Tel 01736 851147 Email : di.franklin236@gmail.com) – if you plan to stay over at the hotel or join the evening meal on the Saturday, you probably need ot book soon
The Newsletter is likely to be more erratic over the next few weeks as we have a number of visitors and will then be away ourselves. Do feel free to send me any items of news which you think would be of interest to others, always happy to include them.
That’s all for this week, hope to see you on Sunday night for another cracking evening.
All the best
Nigel
