Dreamers newsletter 20th July 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jul 21, 2023

A great night at Dreamers last week with Didjan, brilliant music and songs, very obvioiusly enjoyed by all including some returning visitors. It’s always good to see visitors to Cornwall returning to see us again, hopefully something we can look forward to through the summer.
As always, our guests were well supported by regulars , a reminder that singers nights (which we look forward to over the next few weeks) can be just as enjoyable as guest nights and, of course, give an opportunity for more of us to contribute, share our material and, perhaps, try out new ideas.
Jonathan mentioned our next guest who is Nerida Cuddy on 13th August. We first met Nerida on the Dreamers Zoom sessions and enjoyed her lovely songs. An unfamiliar name to many, she is becoming increasingly well-known in Australia with five albums to her name and appearances at gigs and festivals all over New South Wales and Victoria. She lives in a small country town in NSW and this will be her first visit to Europe so I’m sure she can look forward to a warm welcome at Dreamers – she’s described locally as “a composer & musician with not only an ear for music, but a social conscience and a sense of humour”.which should certainly suit us.. More at Nerida.info | Music of Nerida Cuddy and on our social media.
One of the advantages of the online zoom sessions was and is that they enable us to meet musicians (and audience) from far and wide). The next Cornwall Zoom Folk Club is this coming Saturday, 22nd July , and, as usual, we’ve had requests for the link from some new faces as well as our large list of regular and occasional “visitors” – just let me know if you would like the link.
Two items from Folk on Foot – more details of both at Folk On Foot.
Firstly there’s a new episode where they climb to the top of Yorkshire’s tallest peak, Whernside, with singer/songwriter Johnny Campbell and the fiddle player Mikey Kenney to record a track for Johnny’s forthcoming album “True North” – each track recorded at the summit of one of the highest peaks in the North of England. Plenty of northern folk music and the campaign for a Right to Roam”
Secondly, Matthew Bannister (who organises all this) is off on a Big Walk 2023, 180 miles from Wickham Festival to Folk East. This is all to raise money for the charity “Help Musicians so a thoroughly worthwhile cause.
And, finally, how nice to see Pete Coe back in Cornwall and getting a warm welcome from a packed house at Penzance Folk Club last night. If you want to see him, he’s also at Bodmin Folk Club tomorrow, Friday 21st July (details at Bodmin Folk Club – The home of traditional folk song in Cornwall. Est. 1968.
Enough for now, hope to see you at Dreamers on Sunday
All the best
Nigel
