Dreamers newsletter 13th July 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jul 15, 2023

Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter.

Last Sunday was again a bumper night at Dreamers with a pretty full house, some visitors and all adding up to lots of performers for Alistair to fit in. Some great new material too as well as more familiar songs.

This coming Sunday, 16th July, we welcome guests in the shape of Didjan, named after the small piece of pasty left for the buccas to help ward off danger. Didjan is Richard Trethewey and Bec Applebee, telling the stories of remarkable characters that have given Cornwall such a strong sense of identity. With a wide variety of tools such as fiddle, cittern, crowdy crawn, voice, spoken word and dance, Bec and Richard have a wealth of experience playing at the highest level of Cornish music in a number of bands, taking their vision all over the world from village halls to the Royal Albert Hall to the largest Celtic festivals in the world. Another night to look forward to.

This is the week of Lafrowda in St Just. Lafrowda Day itself, this Saturday, will be full of live music, stalls and three fantastic community parades with withy sculptures and a torchlit procession. There will be performers on two stages on Saturday from morning till late including our friend David Harley on the Plen Stage at 8.00 p.m. More info can be found at www.Lafrowda.co.uk

Predictably, there’s less online at this time of year (The “Live to Your Living Room site is taking a holiday until September now) but one event this Saturday (15th July) features past Dreamers guests Ninebarrow hosting a mini digital festival from Rose Cottage. There will be live performances in and around the cottage, with Ninebarrow joined by special guests including Odette Mitchell, Dan Walsh, and Will Finn & Rosie Calvert. Tickets and lots more about them from Online Concerts | The Ninebarrow Shop

Another taking a summer break is Wadebridge Folk Club who have their last session until September on Thursday 20th July at The Barn, NT Cafe, Pentireglaze PL27 6QY – 7-10pm Cake provided!

If anyone fancies a Monday afternoon on the sofa with music, poems, banter, friends from the Cornish Zoom have told us about a session on 1st and 3rd Mondays, starting at 3pm. I think it’s hosted by Maretta Heap and the link is

Coming into the final countdown now for the Sidmouth Folk Festival at the beginning of August so a reminder that the full programme, tickets and lots more information at Homepage – The Sidmouth Folk Festival  After that, there’s the Cornwall Folk Festival at Wadebridge at the end of August – more details of that and tickets from Full Festival Tickets – Cornwall Folk Festival

It’s been a while since I mentioned the excellent www.folklife.uk web-site, full of information about all sorts of folkie events and other articles. Well worth a look, particularly if you are travelling and want to find a folk evening wherever you are.

That’s all for this week, hope to see you on Sunday for the visit of Didjan, all the best
