Dreamers newsletter 29th June 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jun 30, 2023

Welcome to another week’s Dreamer’s Newsletter, very short this week due to other pressures..

Thanks to all, especially Pip Franklin, for their contributions to last Sunday’s club session. We had a number of regulars away, not least because of Quay Fair Day in Penzance, but still managed a good evening with lots of variety. It was a similar story at the Cornish Zoom session the previous night with some regular distracted by Mazey Day and other summer Festivals and activities. Nevertheless we had plenty of performers and a really high standard. It was great to see and hear John and Marion joining us from the wilds of North Uist.

Another Singers Night this Sunday, 2nd July, and the following week before we welcome Didjan on 16th July.

Looking further ahead, we have the visit of Bruce Watson from Australia in mid-October. Many of us will know his music already and will remember him joining us on many of the early Dreamers Zoom sessions with some great songs and humour. Bruce has been in touch suggesting that some of our own performers might want to join in with him on a couple of numbers. He’s offered to send sheet music, lyrics and MP3s in advance – please have a chat with me over the next couple of weeks and we can see if this could work.

Less than two months now till the Cornwall Folk Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend in Wadebridge. Top names are the Gigspanner Big Band, Kinaris Quintet and Seth Lakeman but there’s load of other performers (including Sarah McQuaid and Our Atlantic Roots) as well as sessions, ceilidhs and workshops. Full details at Cornwall Folk Festival – Brings Folk’s Best To Cornwall; Showcases Cornwall to the World!

That’s all for now, hope to see you on Sunday at Dreamers, until then all the best
