Dreamers newsletter 30 March 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Mar 30, 2023

Hi and welcome to the last Newsletter before Easter – we have visitors so I won’t be able to put one together next week, next Newsletter should be on 13th April.
By then, we’ll be looking forward to our next guests, Crows, on Sunday 16th April. Crows were originally formed in 1977 and the original line-up was a popular feature of the folk scene from 1978 to 1988.Two of the original line-up remain in the revived band, Mick Ryan and Dave Bordewey, now joined by Pete Harris (vocals, guitar and bouzouki) who worked in an acclaimed duo with Mick for many years and by the inimitable Paul Downes on guitar, banjo, mando-cello and harmonies. Crows have performed at many Festivals and Folk clubs throughout the country wowing audiences with their amazing harmonies and deft instrumentals. This should be a Dreamers night to remember.

Two more Singers nights before that, of course, and we can but hope they’ll live up to the standard of the last two sessions with most of the regulars and some great visitors. Two excellent evenings at the Victoria.

Alongside all of this, we have the Cornish Zoom sessions which sprang out of the Dreamers Zoom (originally Watch Parties) during the pandemic. Just three years ago, we passed round a piece of paper for email addresses so we could keep in touch during the highly uncertain times which lay ahead little knowing it would lead to all this! Our last Zoom session, last Saturday, was as always a great success with very welcome appearances from Nick Dow and also from Mike Nicholson who we hadn’t seen for a little while. Also good to see Loctup Together before their appearance at the fundraiser concert on 14th April for the Mevagissey Shanty Festival. Next Zoom session is on Saturday 22nd April.
Another Festival coming up is the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature which runs from May 12th to 20th. All information at www.foweyfestival.com There’s plenty on there, covering a wide range. Including, possibly sharing publicity together for the first time, Fishermans Friends and Ann Widdicombe!
Online, Rosslyn Court in Margate have Den Miller tonight. 30th March, at 7.30. Strong melodies, catchy sing-along choruses and intelligent lyrics are the trademark of songs composed and performed by this singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, all delivered with clarity, energy and a good deal of humour. This is a hybrid gig with the first hour free oin line – tickets from www.rosslyncourt.com/concerts
Another new episode in the lovely Folk on Foot series. In this one, the nature writer Amy-Jane Beer, author of “The Flow” joins the welsh singer songwriter Owen Shiers (also known as Cynefin) on a walk up the beautiful River Clettwr in Ceredigion. Songs and stories aplenty. More info and tickets from Folk On Foot
That’s all for now, back in 2 weeks time, take care
