Hi and welcome to this week’s Newsletter.
I hope last Sunday’s session at the Club was the usual success – unfortunately we had to miss it but we plan to be back this week for another Singers night before the visit of Silvington, Tricia Moore and John Connor, established performers from the Folk on the Moor Club in Ivybridge. More about them next week or on their own web-site at Home (silvington.org)
No sooner had I sent last week’s Newsletter than early news came of the 50th Cornwall Folk Festival in Wadebridge from 24th to 28th August.
· As it’s the 50th Anniversary, they are looking to bump up the programme and put on an exhibition of the history of the Festival so if you have anything to contribute – particularly from the 70s to the 90s – any memories, memorabilia on what has happened before, you can get in touch via their special email of CFF50@CornwallFolkFestival.com.
· Secondly there is a fundraising ceilidh in Wadebridge Town Hall on Friday 24th February (7.30 start). Tickets are £10 from CornwallFolkFestival.com/ceilidh or on the door.
· Early Bird tickets are now on sale from Earlybird Full Festival Tickets – Cornwall Folk Festival where you can also find early details of the programme. This includes three headline concerts in the town hall:
Friday 25th August: Gigspanner Big Band + Geoff Lakeman & Rob Murch
Saturday 26th August: Kinnaris Quintet + Our Atlantic Roots
Sunday 27th August: Mystery Guest + Windjammer
The Mystery Guest is an award-winning major name in the folk world with an international following. They have an embargo until Spring on announcing who!
Lots on line coming up:-

All with a passion for traditional English dance and its music, their combined repertoire is vast and includes rarely played and unusual regional tunes alongside more familiar session favourites. And on Sunday 12 February, 7:30pm (coinciding with the Club but available for 3 days afterward), there’s a livestream with Eliza Carthy and the Restitution from the Wiltshire Music Centre. A vanguard of the folk scene for 30 years, this is a celebration of that milestone and the release of her album Queen of the Whirl, a collection of greatest hits and audience favourites. Thirty years of music reimagined, from Billy Bragg to Peggy Seeger, from The Ratcatchers to Imagined Village, from bloody boots in Trafalgar Square to the moors of North Yorkshire, and everywhere in between. Tickets at Livestream: Eliza Carthy & The Restitution | Wiltshire Music Centre
And a reminder that next Monday 13th February at there’s a hybrid gig, held at Berwick House in Shrewsbury but also livestreamed around the world with Alistair Anderson and Dan Walsh, twoof the most dynamic musicians in folk music. Both open-minded, thoughtful musicians with love of both the traditional and the distinctly “off the wall,” they share a chemistry on stage which delights audiences and builds a very special energy on stage. Enough for now, all the best
Nigel
