Dreamers newsletter 12th January 2023

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jan 13, 2023

Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter, a short one as I’m having a very busy week.

It was great to see so many familiar faces at the Club last Sunday, most notably, of course, Roger and Gaye Bryant who we have missed so much. Amazing how young they now look! Also some more occasional visitors from past time, all combining with the rest of us to give a great evening and well managed by Ruth. Let’s hope for another evening as good this coming Sunday, 15th January, following which we have our first guest of the year with Jim Causley on his wassailing tour. Should be a busy night.

Last week Imentioned 2 on-line events tonight – another one tonight, 12th January, is a hybrid gig with Open Water who apparently bring a fresh approach to acoustic music. Traditional British folk roots augmented with a variety of other influences from celtic music to American bluegrass. The first hour, from 7.30 will be livestreamed free  at Open Water – YouTube. This is a Rosslyn Court event – donations to www.rosslyncourt.com/donate

Another hybrid Rosslyn Court event next Thursday 19th January (again 7.30 for one hour). Good Habits are a UK alt-folk duo, telling stories and turning heads across the globe. Together, singer-cellist Bonnie Schwarz and accordionist Pete Shaw create folk-ish musical tales, with captivating lyrics married with their unique brand of brisk instrumental virtuosity. Again its on youtube at Good Habits – YouTube with donations to www.rosslyncourt.com/donate

Finally advance notice of a highlight event on Live to Your Living Room on Saturday 21st January at 8.00. This is Scalene, formed in 1998 with legendary British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sandra Kerr, her daughter Nancy Kerr and Nancy’s Australian partner James Fagan. Combining luscious family harmonies, traditional songs mainly from Nancy’s ancestral county of Northumberland, and dashing instrumentals both old and newly composed, Scalene played many festivals and recorded the acclaimed album “Scalene”. Kerr and Fagan went on to become a much-loved and multi-award-winning duo on the folk scene but in 2022, to celebrate Sandra’s 80th birthday, the trio got back together to play concerts at Sidmouth and Whitby Folk Festivals, and the response was so good, they decided to put on this very special night. Its another hybrid gig, coming from Sheffield. Looks as though we can watch all of this one on line, tickets from Scalene | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room

No time for more, all the best
