Welcome again
It was good to welcome some new faces and performers at Dreamers last Sunday as well as returning visitors and the “usual suspects”. A high standard of performance all round so a good evening again. With the Falmouth Voice Tour this coming weekend, it may be that some visitors to that are able to stay on for the Sunday evening at Dreamers too.
The next Cornish Zoon Folk Club evening is 22nd October – watch out, it’s always on the 4th Saturday of the month which usually catches some folk out when the month has five Saturdays (as this one does)!
The Penzance Folk Club web-site is now in process of being updated so worth a look. The Club meets at the Bath Inn, Cornwall Terrace, Penzance TR11 8HL on alternate Wednesdays – next dates are October 12th and 26th at 8.00 p.m. (with a Club outing to the Acorn Theatre on 16th October). Club nights are “round the room” sessions which are free – there’s a raffle to pay for occasional guests. Please do note their Covid 19 Policy Statement if you are thinking of going.
The Acorn visit is for a concert with Chris White and Julie Matthews – for more details see While & Matthews – The Acorn Theatre, Penzance, Cornwall (theacornpenzance.com)
Over the last 12 years, Devoran Acoustic Sessions at Devoran Village Hall have hosted lots of well-known artists. The latest offering, on Sunday 23rd October at 2.30, is Jim Causley’s Tea Treat. This is an afternoon of Charles Causley’s poems set to music by Jim who, as most will know, is an award winning folk singer and song-writer from Devon. Tea, Saffron and Hevva cake will be available in the interval (order on arrival). Tickets are available from the Cornish Riviera Box Office at www.crbo.co.uk (or from the Truro Information Centre) or from Jim’s own web-site at Concerts • Jim Causley
I mentioned the very sad death of Paul Sartin recently. Paul was, of course, part of “Faustus” with Benji Kirkpatrick and Saul Rose. Benji and Saul have chosen to go ahead with four of the original tour dates that were planned for Faustus this October. One of these will be happening at The Cumberland Arms in Newcastle, Live to Your Living Room can bring you a livestream of this gig to celebrate Paul’s life and the music he loved. Mike Harding has announced that episode of the Mike Harding Folk Show was on October was the last – the effort of researching, producing, recording editing and mixing has finally become too much for him. There’s a huge archive of older material available still through his website at THE MIKE HARDING FOLK SHOW – The very best in folk, roots and acoustic music
And, finally, a very Happy Birthday to Alistair – enjoy!
That’s enough for now
All the best
Nigel
