Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter.
Another good night at the Club on Sunday, thanks to Ruth as MC, plenty of regulars on good form and not too much interruption from the heavy showers. This coming Sunday we look forward to the visit of Tim Brine and Sue Franklin. Tim and Sue have been singing as a duo for over 20 years. They both sing and play a variety of instruments, drawing their music from both traditional and contemporary sources as well as their own self-penned songs of social comment which reflect their commitment to environmental and social causes. If you want a quick preview, there’s plenty to be seen on youtube and facebook if you google them.
The St Ives September Festival starts this weekend. There’s a huge range of activity of all sorts to be found on the main Festival web-site at Home – St Ives September Festival 2022 Some events are sold out but at time of writing you could get tickets via the site for many events including Lindisfarne (this Saturday, 10th September), both Alistair Brown and Bryhers Boys on Friday 16th (different venues but overlapping times) and Peggy Seeger on Saturday 17th September.
As promised Live to Your Living Room returns tomorrow, Friday 9th September at 8.00 with Will Pound and Jenn Butterworth. According to the web-site, two of the finest instrumentalists in traditional music combine to bring a tour de force of breath-taking performances, which first started in lockdown with a video that was an international internet sensation. An outstanding talent in his generation, harmonica and melodeon player Will Pound has pushed the boundaries of both instruments, sharing awe-inspiring performances across the world. Meanwhile, Jenn Butterworth is one of the most notable folk guitarists in the UK, previously awarded ‘Musician of the Year’ at the Scots Trad Music Awards, and nominated for the same title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Tickets for this can be bought at Events | Live Music Online Gig | Live to your Living Room
At the same site you can also find details of lots of future events including, on Friday 16th September, the opening concert if the Shetland Songwriting Festival, a special one-off gig with Lucy Farrell and M G Boulter celebrating all things song and exploring the art of songwriting
.
And, finally, some more past Dreamers guests with a special event this Saturday 10th September at 7pm (with free 7 day catch-up) – ‘Ninebarrow Presents’ - a folk musical ‘Magellan: Circumnavigation – we sail to prove the earth is round’ for the 500th year anniversary of Magellan’s voyage. Filmed at St James’ church in Poole this should be a stunning evening of music. Tickets from Ninebarrow’s own website at Ninebarrow Presents Magellan Circumnavigation | The Ninebarrow Shop
No time for more now, all the best
