Dreamers Newsletter 19 / 05 / 2022

Posted By dreamersfolk on May 19, 2022

Hi and welcome to this week’s Newsletter.

A special night to look forward to at Dreamers this coming Sunday as Baldricks Plan lead a special charity night, starting as always at 7.30 at the Victoria Inn. The war in Ukraine is affecting many thousands of innocent people and if we can help in some small way to alleviate pain and hunger and let ordinary Ukrainians know that we care and are sending support & love, it is the right thing to do. Please come along if you can (entry by donation, give what you can).

The following week at Dreamers, Sunday 29th May, is a Singers night but the previous night, Saturday 28th, sees another Cornish Zoom Folk Club night. More information and the usual zoom link for those who want it next week.

Our good friend (and the Editor of Folk in Cornwall) John Tremaine has a session (“Acoustic Folk Jam”) at the New Inn in Tywardreath also this coming Sunday, 22nd May, but earlier, between 2.30 and 5pm. All welcome to sing, play or just listen, free entry.

Whilst on the subject of Newsletters, the latest edition of Folk Life is now available on line at www.folklife.uk. Lots of articles and news including news of two US Shanty Festivals – the first Connecticut Sea Music Festival at http://ctseamusicfest.org/ and the Portsmouth (USA) Maritime Music Festival at www.pmffest.org. It looks as though some at least is available online.

Also on line tonight, Thursday 19th May, at 8.00 is Cup O’Joe, a progressive bluegrass and folk band founded in Northern Ireland by three siblings (Tabitha, Benjamin and Reuben Agnew), later joined by Tabitha’s husband David Benedict. Their unique mix of original compositions and re-imagined traditional songs, paired with their lively performances, has given them a growing presence on the acoustic music scene. Tickets at Cup O’Joe | Online Gig | Live to Your Living Room

Plenty more coming up on Live to Your Living Room and, no doubt, other events as the Jubilee Bank Holiday approaches. News next week of two events then at the Plain-an-Gwarry in St Just which sound great particularly if the weather is kind.

That’s all for next week, keep safe and well

Nigel
