Welcome to this week’s Dreamer’s Newsletter. This will be short, far too many other things to so this week!
A Singers Night at the Club this coming Sunday and then two guest weeks to look forward to. On 15th May, we have Our Atlantic Roots, Mac and Laura Johnston (£5) – for more info about them, see their web-site at Home – Our Atlantic Roots or their social media pages. The following Sunday, the Club welcomes the new Baldricks Plan line-up for a special charity night for Ukraine (donations on the door, £10 suggested). Should be two good evenings.
An email from Sidmouth Festival reminds me that the closing date for early birds tickets is this Sunday 8th May. Keep checking the web-site (The Sidmouth Folk Festival – 29th July – 5th August 2022) for more and more news of additional performers – notably this week the return of “Sounds of Modern Scotland” concerts featuring, among others Peatbog Faeries, Fara and Mairead Green & Anna Massey. Also plenty of new names to go with a great line up of established performers.
For those who were sorry to miss Jackie Oates at Devoran (covid cancellation), there’s a chance to catch up on line this evening, Thursday 5th May on Home Stage (Jackie Oates — Home Stage (home-stage.co.uk). This is “IN Conversation with Jackie Oates”, an insight from her own music room into her life and career, exploring the highs and lowes of her folk journey and what personal events colour and shape her music. All interspersed with eight songs and tunes recorded specially for this show. Tickets £5 from the web-site.
Tomorrow, there’s an opportunity to hear the Newcastle-based “instrumental powerhouse” Pons Aelius in a hybrid (i.e it’s live as well as on-line) gig from the Globe in Newcastle. Tickets from May 6 – Pons Aelius – The Globe (theglobenewcastle.bar) – the site also shows the range of instruments involved, sounds like a good idea to keep a hand near the volume control!
Also tomorrow, Friday 6th May, there’s Swedish based Folk music from Bridget Marsden and Leif Ottosson and next Wednesday, 11th May, The Last Inklings, multi-instrumentalists Leonardo MacKenzie and David Hoyland. More information and tickets for both of these on Live to Your Living Room (Events | Live Music Online Gig | Live to your Living Room)
Lots more coming up on line including past Dreamers visitors The Shackleton Trio from the Globe in Newcastle and later in the month “Turning Silence into Song – the Music of Leon Rosselson” on zoom and youtube, an all-star celebration of Leon’s music. More about these nearer the time.
That’s all for now, have a good week and take care
Nigel
