Dreamers newsletter 30 March 2022

Posted By dreamersfolk on Apr 3, 2022

Welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter, very short this week I’m afraid, no time.

Good to hear that the Club had another good night on Sunday and that other Clubs in Cornwall and elsewhere are now meeting regularly with differing degrees of caution and varying numbers.

The second Cornish Zoom Folk Club last weekend was another great success with Malcolm and Hilary doing a great job as MCs. No less than 28 different performers from many different parts of the UK as well as Canada, USA, Ireland and two different States in Australia. Sadly it’s not likely our Australian friends will be joining us during the summer as it would involve a 5.30 a.m. start for them but they’ve promised to be back once our clocks have changed back again so we’ll look forward to that.

It was good to see Pete Grassby at the zoom session. A reminder that he has re-started the “Not the Bodmin Zoom” sessions, every fortnight, another online session with performers from far and wide. The next one is tomorrow, 1st April and the link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87338821694?pwd=UGJDMW1VcnhuOEtjdTV0RUE5ZGZTUT09 (87338821694 password 115009)

Other online clubs continue too and we seem to hear of more and more of them. Neil and Kay Dawson’s is now monthly on the second Thursday… It may be that one of the Folk Magazines will publish a list of them all and info on how to contact them – many ask for advance notice of newcomers to avoid regulars being crowded out unexpectedly.

Sidmouth Festival starts on 29th July this year and a range of tickets are now on sale from https://sidmouthfolkfestival.co.uk/ including “early bird” tickets, weekend tickets, tickets for the whole week and others as well as special events such as the tribute concert for Norma Waterson.

This Friday, 1st April (8.00 p.m.), Bodmin Folk Club again have guests, this time Maclaine Colston and Saul Rose. A combination of melodeon and hammered dulcimer from a couple who go right back to Kings of Calicutt with Eliza Carthy. Saul is also in the line-up for the Norma Waterson concert at Sidmouth

Good to hear also from our friends Will Finn and Rosie Calvert again. It sounds as though their day long harmony events with seasonal themes are a great success and they are now arranging more, for now in their own area in Northumberland but hoping that, if they continue to be popular, they’ll be able to spread out across the country. It’s a long way from there to here but it would be lovely to see them.

And finally as I know that some of those receiving this Newsletter have tickets for the Jackie Oates workshop and/or concert at Devoran Village Hall this weekend, it’s cancelled – sadly she has covid. A reminder to take care.

All the best

Nigel
