Dreamers newsletter 24/3/2022

Posted By dreamersfolk on Mar 25, 2022

Hi and welcome to this week’s Newsletter, just a short one.

Two whole years now since the original covid lockdown and how much many things have changed. Folk music goes on, of course. Many clubs have reopened, some like Dreamers in new venues, and Festivals are being planned with, perhaps, more confidence that they will be able to go ahead without last minute change. It was good to hear that Sunday night at Dreamers went well though with the first guests for two years. No surprise that it sounds like a great evening with Rum and Shrub as guests. Back to Open House for a couple of weeks now before Winter Wilson on 10th April.

On line music has flourished over the two years. Links for the second Cornish Zoom Folk Club night this Saturday will go out tomorrow and we are looking forward to seeing lots of people there. This  may be the last time for our Australian friends as our clocks spring forward this coming weekend and the even earlier hour makes it too early for them (though they may join as latecomers!). We’re expecting some new performers so it should be a good evening.

We’ve been to two other zoom evenings lately. Last Friday was Pete Grassby’s “Not the Bodmin Zoom” with a  good range of performers from all over. On Tuesday, we “went” to the Quarter Acoustic Music Club, run by our good zoom friends Neil and Kay Dawson from Hamilton so a strong Scottish flavour – and a very high standard all through the evening. They’ve got one more weekly zoom on 29th April before their Club reopens “in person” but they’ll be continuing with monthly zooms on the second Thursday, first one 14th April.

And the real Bodmin Folk Club have our old friends Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner this Friday 25th at 8.00. Sure to be a great evening. Bodmin Folk Club – The home of traditional folk song in Cornwall. Est. 1968.

Next Friday, 1st April, Devoran Acoustic Sessions have Jackie Oates and John Spiers at the Devoran Village Hall at 7.30. They’ve had some wonderful performers at these sessions over the years, generally winter only and this seems to be the last opportunity until September.  Tickets for all shows are available from Cornish Riviera Box Office, on-line www.crbo.co.uk, by phone 01726 63513 and in person from Truro Tourist Information Centre.

Next Tuesday, 29th March, Live to Your Living Room features The Furrow Collective, an English/Scottish band with four talented and individually prominent performers: Lucy Farrell (viola, voice & saw), Rachel Newton (harp, fiddle, voice), Emily Portman (banjo, concertina, voice) and Alasdair Roberts (guitars, voice). The group formed in 2013, drawn together by a shared love of traditional song and balladry of England, Scotland and beyond and an open, intuitive approach to collaboration. Events | Live Music Online Gig | Live to your Living Room

That’s all for now, all the best
