Dreamers newsletter 16th January 2026

Posted By dreamersfolk on Jan 16, 2026

Hello and welcome to this week’s Dreamers Newsletter, somewhat brief in the absence of lots of news at this time of year. It’s also a day later than usual because of the combined effect of storm aftermath, decorators all over this house and particularly the need to have my laptop replaced.

We wondered how many would make it to Dreamers last Sunday in the wake of the storms and, indeed with some poor folk still without power after 3 days and, also, whether people would have recovered from the various ailments they were suffering the week before. In the event we had a really good turn out and a notably high standard of performances all through the evening. Thanks to all for your efforts and, especially to Alistair as our MC. Alistair will be our next “guest” on Burns Night, 25th January, but before then we have a singers night to look forward to this weekend with, hopefully, even more folk returning.

Online we have the next Cornish Zoom Folk Club on Saturday 24th January following the great turn out on 27th December. These sessions continue to flourish. Not surprisingly, there’s been some rationalisation of all the different online sessions which sprang up during covid and some have closed or merged but one other which continues to flourish is run by Pete Grassby (who joined us for our 25th Birthday) based on Rowington Folk Club in the Midlands. His next session is on Wednesday 21st January and features Mark Dowding from Lancashire who was a great guest at Dreamers last year and often comes along when he and Maggi are on holiday in Cornwall. He’s supported by David Jones, originally from London but now living in the US, a fine acapella singer as well as floor singers. Let me know if you want the link to this one.

Live to Your Living Room features Colum Sands on Sunday 18th – whilst this obviously clashes with Dreamers, all their sessions are watchable for 72 hours afterwards. Colum is an Irish singer-songwriter who has performed as a solo artist as well as with numerous other artists. He’s said to be contemplative, warm and funny and an expert storyteller. Buy tickets – Colum Sands – Zoom And a date for the diary on this site is Thursday 12th February with John Kirkpatrick – “200 Years of the Squeezebox”

Finally, some sad news. Some of us will remember Beryl Moseling  who lived in Dorset but was a regular visitor to Cornwall  and enjoyed the sessions at the Golden Lion in Stithians and, of course, Dreamers, whenever she could get there. RIP.

That’s all for this week, hope to see you on Sunday night.

All the best

Nigel
