SUMMARY:Fly Yeti Fly
DESCRIPTION:[fvplayer id=”2″] \nWho are Fly Yeti Fly? \nFly Yeti Fly are the Wiltshire-based acoustic duo Lorna Somerville and Darren Fisher. Blending sensitive vocal harmonies with intricate guitar arrangements\, mandolin and harmonica\, the duo weave songs and stories from their travels together\, with a sound that is reminiscent of the late-’60s folk scene. Now living on their canal boat on the Kennet & Avon canal\, their music is heavily influenced by the natural world and life on the water. Their debut album ‘Shine a Light in the Dark’\, released March 2017\, has since received critical acclaim. Having appeared on BBC Introducing stages across the south west and keen artists on the festival circuit\, this pair are often accompanied by the exceptional artist Jo Hooper (Mudskippers) on cello. \nQuotes about Fly Yeti Fly…\n“…fly yeti fly are a seriously incredible duo…just stunning…” \nJames Santer\, BBC Introducing Devon \n“Combinations of Mandolin\, Guitar\, Harmonica and Vocal Harmonies allow Fly Yeti Fly to layer their material with becalming webs that captivate the listener.” \nwww.emergingindiebands.com \n“Beautiful harmonies are a big feature of their performance. Their voices worked together superbly well. Many of the songs were their own delicately crafted compositions – lovely lyrics & lovely tunes … One of their strengths was their spontaneity & openness. Let’s hope that if they go further they don’t lose this. Their chats with each other as well as with the audience all contributed to our feeling of involvement … Lorna & Darren clearly make sweet music together.” \nCalstock Arts\, www.calstockarts.org \n‘…a really rather beautiful debut album of original material … Fly Yeti Fly have used other musicians just to add some light and shade\, and they’ve done that really quite tastefully and sparingly. It reminds me of some of the more left-field folk of the seventies – they’ve got more in common with Dr. Strangely Strange with The Incredible String Band than they have with The Watersons or Peter Bellamy. And there’s also a strong current of Americana running through the veins of this album\, which\, for me\, bought to mind at times the The Low Anthem and The Decemberists. I think their voices blend fantastically\, and there’s some great harmonies on here; there’s more than a hint of Carol King and James Taylor\, which speaks quality in itself.’ \nRoots & Shoots Show\, Phonic FM Exeter
