Welcome to another week’s Dreamers Newsletter
Another busy night at Dreamers last Sunday with plenty of performers and some visitors, some very enjoyable performances. We were all very sorry to hear that Ruth had been taken to hospital completely unexpectedly. Everyone signed a get well card and let’s hope for some better news this weekend. At time of writing I understand she’s still in Treliske but may need to go to Derriford before long. Very best wishes to her and to Paul.
It’s another singers night this coming Sunday, Easter Day and again the following week, April 12th, before our next guests Scolds Bridle on April 19th. They come highly recommended – more of them next week. We also have the Dreamers visit to Bodmin Folk Club to look forward to on Friday 10th April – again I’ll put more details of this in next week’s Newsletter
We also had a very successful evening on the Cornish Zoom Folk Club, again with plenty of good performers from all round the country and the world. It’s always nice to be able to keep in touch with good friends of the club like Nick Dow and Pete Grassby as well as Jill Watson from Melbourne (Bruce was away performing at an eel festival).
As mentioned last week and at the Club on Sunday, the celebration of Roger Bryant will be at the Membly Hall Hotel in Falmouth on Saturday 25th April from 1.00 till 5.00. A programme is being arranged with Cornish clubs invited to perform their own mini-programmes within it. Jonathan is organising the Dreamers contribution so do talk to him if you want to offer something that day.
Online Live to Your Living Room has O’Hooley and Tidow this Saturdasy, 4th April at 8.00 (Buy tickets – O’Hooley & Tidow – Zoom) O’Hooley and Tidow is a contemporary folk duo consisting of Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi Tidow who are based in Yorkshire and have been performing together since 2009. This is a hybrid gig from The Arches in Halifax. Poignant lyrics, beautiful vocal harmonies and exceptional piano playing. Their album “Winterfolk” was the winner of the World Cup of Christmas Folk competition.
Finally a poetic event coming up with current British poet laureate Simon Armitage appearing in at King Charles the Martyr Church in Falmouth on May 9th (7.00). Simon’s website is at Simon Armitage – The Official Website and he’s supported by the band LYR which also contains singer-songwriter Richard Walters and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Pearson. Thanks to Robin Evans for this – tickets from Events, Recent & Forthcoming – Simon Armitage
That’s all for this week, best wishes to all for Easter and hope to see you at Dreamers on Sunday evening.
Nigel
